Hotel Merihovi
Step inside Hotel Merihovi and take a step back in time. In the lobby you might regret leaving your dancing shoes home, when your feet start tapping to the beat of the jitterbug. Built in 1949, when there was a shortage of everything but guts and hope about the future, the hotel represents the architectural beauty of the 1950s. The nails and bricks came from the Muurola Sanatorium; the grand interior, impressive ceiling fixtures, and classic white columns were designed by Paavo Tynell. Fifty years later all the rooms underwent full remodeling and were tastefully redecorated. Today Merihovi is a hotel with a unique air of Arctic luxury.
Restaurants Restaurant Merihovi is a gourmet restaurant with long traditions and has been awarded the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs plaque. The menu serves the seasons' best tastes. The generous hotel breakfast is also served at the restaurant. Ankkuri Bar & Café serves snacks and hearty fare. A tasty buffet lunch is served daily on weekdays. Ankkuri is open until the early morning hours.
Other services The hotel has three saunas, four cabinets to accommodate 8 to 40 persons, and suites for teamwork. The icebreaker Sampo offers four-hour cruises, complete with a good lunch and a chance to swim in the icy water dressed in a water-tight thermal suit. The towering SnowCastle, built every year in Kemi, is a magnificent place to visit.
