Roaming the Woods for Mushrooms |
Thousands of different wild mushrooms grow in Finland. About 200 varieties are edible and 22 of the most delicious ones are certified for commercial use.
Though the annual yield of wild mushrooms can vary from 350 million to 1 billion kilograms, only 2-10 million kilos are picked every year.
Finland's 'everyman's right' makes it legal to roam the woods freely and pick mushrooms and berries on anyone's land, as long as one stays outside a 150-meter radius of an inhabited yard. |
